HBA of SC Partners with SC OSHA to Reduce Injuries
 |
| Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulations Director Adrienne Youmans, HBA of SC President Keith Smith, and HBA of SC Director of Regulatory Affairs Kevin Shelton made the alliance official by signing documentation at a reception in Columbia on May 21. |
The Home Builders Association of South Carolina recently aligned with the South Carolina Office of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) to work collaboratively in making work sites safer and healthier. The alliance will lead to more tailored education opportunities from SC OSHA with a focus on prevention and sharing best practices and technical knowledge to help improve the work environment.
SC OSHA and the HBA of SC will share information, guidance and access to training resources that will help protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to hazards associated with residential builders' jobsites. The alliance will work together to achieve the following training and education goals:
- Conduct fall protection, excavation, worksite maintenance and other seminars to provide expertise in communicating such information to employers and employees in the industry and their sub-contractors, and deliver or arrange for the delivery of residential builders awareness seminars.
- Encourage participating contractors to include an announcement of the alliance on their jobsites and Web sites, if applicable, and through internal communication.
- Encourage participating contractors to conduct a minimum of 10 hours of OSHA training from a qualified source on various hazards related to the residential builders' jobsite.
