Thompson, DeMint Accept Invitation to Convention

Convention goers and Spike Club members will likely get a treat at the HBA County Fair and Stump Meeting being held at the annual convention in Myrtle Beach. Possible presidential candidate Fred Thompson (R - Tennessee) and Senator Jim DeMint have accepted invitations to speak at the Stump Meeting.

"We're excited about having Fred Thompson and Jim DeMint speak at our stump meeting," said Mark Nix, HBA of South Carolina executive officer. "This is a great opportunity for our members to communicate directly with these political figures and we only hope both men will be able to keep us on their schedule."

Spike Club members will get an even greater opportunity. The Convention Committee has arranged for Thompson and DeMint to meet with Spikes during the Spike Reception being held an hour before the HBA County Fair and Stump Meeting.

"Because Spikes play a large role in new member recruitment and retention, we want to reward them for their hard work and dedication by giving them a reception and time with our special guests," said Nix.

While Thompson has yet to commit to become a presidential candidate, he is expected to make an announcement any time now. Once that happens, schedules can change to better suit the campaign. The HBA is hopeful his schedule will not change, especially since South Carolina's primary election is the first in the South.
