New NAHB Designations for 2008: Graduate Master Remodeler, Certified Green Professional
The National Association of Home Builders will begin two new designations in February 2008: Certified Green Professional and Graduate Master Remodeler.
The Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation was approved at September's Fall Board of Directors Meeting in Seattle. Plans for the designation have been placed on a fast track so that they can coincide with the launch of the NAHB National Green Building Program, which is set to be unveiled at The International Builders' Show in February.
Since the "Green Building for Building Professionals" course was first presented at the National Green Building Conference in Albuquerque, NM in March 2006, it has been offered 21 times by home builders associations and during trade shows all over the country and has been completed by 470 students.
The Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) designation allows CGRs to attain further recognition for educational excellence and longevity in the remodeling industry. This is a new program due to be implemented in February 2008 and is designed to be the master level of the current CGR designation. Qualifications include 15 years remodeling experience, completion of 5 required courses, and having an active CGR for 9 years or active CR (Certified Remodeler) from NARI (National Association Remodeling Industry) for 10 years.
