Home Builders Association of Greater Spartanburg Endorses Scott Talley

The Home Builders Association of Greater Spartanburg announced today their endorsement of Scott Talley in the Republican primary for State Senate Seat 12.

"The housing community has a true friend in Representative Scott Talley," said Jim Jones, President of the 580 member Home Builders Association. "We are pleased to endorse him in this primary because we know that, when elected to the State Senate, Scott Talley will continue to support pro-housing and pro-business legislative initiatives with as much strength and vigor as he has for the past 7 years."

Throughout his tenure as a state legislator, Talley has proven his dedication to affordable housing time and time again. Recently, he voted in favor of comprehensive workers compensation reform – a much sought after measure by home builders and the small business community. Prior to the reform, South Carolina’s small businesses were paying approximately $100 million into the state’s Second Injury Fund as part of their workers compensation coverage. The reform package, which included the elimination of this fund, will save small businesses hundreds of millions of dollars in the future.

Talley was a sponsor of the “Affordable Housing Trust Fund” which provides affordable housing to the workforce of South Carolina. He has shown leadership in other pro-housing legislation such as the SC Department of Transportation Reform, streamlining the permitting process for septic tanks, and reform of the SC Ethics Commission. Additionally, Representative Talley supported legislation such as the Job Development Bill, Small Business Health Insurance Act to allow small businesses to join together to obtain more affordable health insurance for its employees and save money on administrative costs.

Scott Talley’s proven support for the issues affecting both home builders and home owners across our state has earned him the endorsement of the Home Builders Association of Greater Spartanburg in the GOP Primary for Senate Seat 12.

“Representative Talley has stood up for home builders and consumers time and time again. We’re proud to call him a champion for our issues as well as a friend,” concluded Jones. "The citizens of District 12 deserve affordable housing, and Scott Talley will represent them well in the Senate."
