Dan Rawls Company Wins National Housing Endowment’s Builder Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Service
Dan Rawls Company was honored for its charitable work by the National Housing Endowment in a ceremony in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 13.
The Piedmont, S.C.-based homebuilder received honorable mention in the endowment’s third annual Builder Achievement Awards for Outstanding Community Service. The award honors Rawls’ renovation of the two-decade old Ronald McDonald House of Greenville. The company constructed porches and other facilities, landscaped the property, and installed televisions and playrooms for the children. Rawls will receive $1,000 from the endowment for the Ronald McDonald House of Greenville.
“Our association couldn’t be happier for the Dan Rawls Company”, says Todd Usher, 2008 President of the HBA of Greenville. “Dan’s dedication to the Ronald McDonald House renovation project will give out-of-town families of terminally ill children receiving medical treatment a nice home away from home while in Greenville.” Usher continues, “Dan has made it his lifelong endeavor to be a part of making our community a better place for everyone.” “Receiving this prestigious award from the National Housing Endowment proved his many hours of volunteer work and dedication was noticed and appreciated by many.”
Seven other builders were also honored at the ceremony, which took place at the 2008 International Builders’ Show.
“Even in challenging times, the generosity of homebuilders continues to shine. They understand that the communities in which they work consist not just of home buyers, but people who need help,” said Gary Garczynski, chairman of the National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Home Builders. “Builders throughout the country have constructed much more than four walls and a roof. They’ve built structures that represent a bridge from a life of struggle to a life of hope. These awards honor that charity, and honor the fact that in tough economic times, this charity is all the more dear.”
Entrants were reviewed by a panel of builders and industry professionals and evaluated based on member participation, community impact, creativity and history of charitable giving. Honorees were selected from a pool of entrants that included builders, remodelers and developers.
