Charleston-Trident HBA Wins Battle of the Builders

Four teams of HBASC members battled it out for bragging rights and the Battle of the Builders trophy during the convention. After several competitive games, Charleston-Trident HBA rose above them all, but it wasn’t smooth.

Hours before Battle of the Builders, team members Phillip Ford and Andy Barber found out most of their team couldn’t make the games as planned. So, they began to regroup and recruit new members. They found Tori Martindale, Georgia Toney, and Roger Langford. With one team member short, their backs were against the wall. They had to have six people on their team. Then, Steven Mungo came on board. Although he is a Greater Columbia HBA member, he could still participate on the Charleston-Trident team since he is an HBASC board member and represents the state.

Now that all four teams were present, the games could begin! First was the peanut roll. One at a time, members had to roll a peanut on the floor to the finish line using a toothpick and their mouth. Next was the pretzel pass. Teams lined up and had to pass a pretzel to each other using straws. Once they went down the line, they had to pass it back. Then, there was the foot word scramble. One letter was stuck to the bottom of each foot. Teams were given a clue and they had to solve and spell out using the bottom of their feet. The final game was Simon Says. Not only did team members play this game, but anyone who wanted to play could also participate.

Battle of the Builders turned out to be two hours of fun, excitement, and anticipation. Even the kids got involved!

Battle of the Builders will return to next year’s convention in Greenville, and the trophy will be passed to the winners…or it could stay in Charleston, depending on who wins. You don’t want to miss out on the fun next year!
