Number of Certified Green Professionals in SC Increasing

The number of Certified Green Professionals is on the rise. The NAHB reports there are 56 CGP designation holders in the Palmetto State. The HBASC expects that number to increase due to the completion of the Business Management for Business Professionals course given at the state convention recently and the required courses being offered on the local level.

The CGP requirements are fairly simple with only two required courses – Green Building for Building Professionals and Green Building for Building Professionals. Of course, if a builder or remodeler already holds an NAHB designation, he/she would only need to take the green building course, making it even easier to get the designation.

Once the requirements have been fulfilled, a completed application and signed code of ethics must be submitted to the NAHB. Maintaining the CGP designation requires 12 hours of continuing education every three years with six hours coming from NAHB educational activities and eight hours coming from green building industry related educational activities.

If you have any questions about the CGP or any other NAHB designation, contact the NAHB designation helpline at 800-368-5242 x8154 or via e-mail at designations@nahb.com.
