New Course Examines Science Behind Green Building
NAHB's new two-day “Advanced Green Building: Building Science” course instructs builders and remodelers on proper building science techniques for constructing and remodeling high-performance homes.
The course was piloted Nov. 16-17 by the New York State Builders Association and will be available as a pre-IBS education session in Las Vegas in January.
This course goes beyond energy efficiency, and discusses the potential for creating a more durable, environmentally responsible and sustainable living environment.
Included in the information being presented are case studies, detailed construction drawings and other resources from sources such as GreenBuildingAdvisor.com, NAHB's partner in the course development process.
Course participants will learn how to:
• Apply building physics to building performance
• Translate building science into design and construction elements
• Dovetail the features of high performance — energy efficiency, water efficiency, materials efficiency and indoor environmental quality
• Describe the high-performance home and its benefits both to the home-building team and the home builder’s clients
• Use all aspects of GreenBuildingAdvisor.com — including "My GBA," the site's project management tool — on individual projects and with the project team
Completion of the course earns credit towards the new Master Green Builder Remodeler (MGBR) designation, which is expected to be introduced early next year.
