Becoming a Certified Master Builder and keeping your designation is simple. Just complete an application and provide the requested documentation. Other requirements must be met before your application can be reviewed. 

• Licensed by the SC Residential Builders Commission or the SC Contractor's Licensing Board
• Builder member of the HBASC in good standing (at least 2 years)
• Successfully complete at least 3 major construction projects within the past 2 years
• Principle income from the building industry for no less than 5 years
  
• Sponsored by a current Certified Master Builder
• Lien free record
• Provide a copy of written contract that contains an arbitration clause and a disclaimer
• Provide a copy of warranty given to all customers
• Carry SC Worker' Comp insurance
• Maintain liablity insurance
• Provide letters of reference from 3 customers, 3 suppliers or subcontractors, and 1 financial institution
• Complete 20 hours of education - 12 hours the business management field and 8 hours in the technical field
• Complete an application

CMB renewal is annual:

• Maintain the HBASC membership in good standing
• Lein free record
• Complete at least 10 hours of continuing education in either the business management field, the technical field, or any combination of the two fields
• Provide proof of workers' comp insurance
• Provide proof of liability insurance
• Sign and return a renewal form, along with the annual renewal fee

The award of the Certified Master Builder designation does not represent and should not be construed as a guarantee or certification of the quality or fitness of the designation holder's work product. The HBASC's conferral of a designation represents only the HBASC's affirmation that the individual designation holder has completed the stipulated requirements of the respective designation program.
