Charleston Trident Home Builders Association Members
While Santa’s little helpers are busy building toys in the North Pole this fall, members of the Charleston Trident Home Builders Association are also hard at work, but for a cause that’s closer to home. While Santa’s little helpers are busy building toys in the North Pole this fall, members of the Charleston Trident Home Builders Association are also hard at work, but for a cause that’s closer to home. They’re building custom dollhouses for Debi’s Kids and The Salvation Army Angel Tree. Home Builders who normally build custom homes of more than 2,000 square feet are downsizing to less than 2 square feet for this special project. Dozens of members from the Association are building smaller scale models of their single-family custom homes to bring years of joy to little girls across the Lowcountry.

Debi’s Kids is an annual toy drive during the holiday season that receives an enormous amount of attention in the Lowcountry.  The drive gets its name from none other than Debi Chard, a well-known new anchor for WCSC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Charleston.  Teaming up with Debi’s Kids and The Salvation Army Angel Tree means the Charleston Trident HBA will help puts smiles on children’s faces during the holidays.

In addition to the Tudor-style home being built by the staff of the HBA, some of the builders already drawing up plans for their dollhouses include: I’On, Chuck Bennett Contracting, Structures Building Company, Atlantic Builders, Tweeked and Wally Seinsheimer III. According to the Charleston Trident HBA, many builders say they plan to get their staff and/or children involved in the dollhouse project. Each dollhouse is expected to take at least 6 weeks to build, with possibly 100 hours of tedious labor involved. The Charleston Trident HBA sees this project as a labor of love for a very worthwhile cause.

When the dollhouses are completed in November, they will be delivered to Debi, and from there they will be showcased and either auctioned off to raise money for DKAT or donated directly to a child in need. The Home Builders Association also plans to collect other store bought dollhouses and toys from our members, which will be donated to the wonderful children who are part of Debi’s Kids and The Salvation Army Angel Tree program.
