At the urging of the Building Official Association of South Carolina to state elected officials and the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR), the Home Builders Association of South Carolina (HBASC) recently formed a Continuing Education Committee to explore the possibilities of implementing mandatory continuing education for all licensed residential builders. LLR officials recently met with the newly formed committee to begin discussing details of the potential program. “Partnering with LLR will allow homebuilders the prime opportunity to develop a continuing education program that will benefit them most and provide a defined curriculum that will benefit our industry,” said Mark Nix, HBASC Executive Officer. “Continuing education will not only benefit our members, but also all homebuilders in the state, and it will speak volumes about our professionalism and our abilities to provide safe, affordable housing.” The Committee will continue to convene until an acceptable program is developed and approved by the Association, its members and LLR. Committee members are: Keith Smith, Keith Smith Builders; Bill Smith, W.G. Smith Construction; Jim Gregorie, The Gregorie Company; Mike Lowman, Mike Lowman Homes; Tony Thompson, Remodeling Services Unlimited; and James Graves, Colony Builders of South Carolina. |
